Senior Infants 2014 – 2015

Reading Buddies

As part of our S.S.E. programme in Scoil Mhuire N.S. we are encouraging all students to read more often at home and in school. Classes throughout the school are actively taking part in initiatives

such as  S.S.R. (Silent Sustained Reading) and D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) throughout the school day. Senior Infants and Second Class are Reading Buddies! These classes get together and read together, for and with each other. This has been a huge success and in the following clip it is evident to see that these children have developed a great love of reading and books.

Well done to all throughout the school.

Happy Reading!

Happy Easter from all in Scoil Mhuire N.S.

Easter Delight abounded in Senior Infants as children watched little chicks hatching in our classroom, there was much joy and wonder as students observed this wonder of Nature.

Master Chefs in Senior Infants

The Senior Infant Classroom was a hive of activity on Friday as we truly got into the festive mood. Pupils made their very own Christmas Puddings with…

“currants and raisins and sugar and spice

orange peel, lemon peel, everything nice…”

Everyone got to mix and stir and most importantly in keeping with the old tradition, we all made own very own special Christmas wish while doing so!

We are looking forward to Christmas Day when the whole family can sample this wonderful creation. Bon Appetit!

Harvest in the garden

What a busy few weeks we have had in Senior Infants learning so many new songs and poems and learning all about nature and the signs of autumn we see all around us. We have enjoyed leaf printings, apple printings and painting too. We enjoy Zumba and yoga time and also love when it’s time for aistear and having lots of fun with all our friends every day. Happy Halloween to all! A big thank you to Holly and James McKnight who cared for our newly hatched chickens and duckling during the summer holiday. They returned to our school garden when school resumed and all could see how much they had grown and changed all summer. We now have our beautiful hens back and there is great joy each morning when children collect the wonderful fresh eggs. They definitely are an eggcellent addition to our garden!

Harvest in the garden

To celebrate Harvest time in the garden we invited parents to come and collect their child and choose pumpkins from our Pumpkin Patch on Wednesday and Thursday.

Our wonderful artists drew designs on the pumkins. Hot chocolate and cookies were available on both days. Happy harvest and Happy Halloween to all!

Discothon

A big thank you to all who supported our discothon in aid of our school garden. €1060 was raised! A special word of thanks to Mr. Cronin and all the 6th class students who worked on a rota basis throughout the day.A great event for all. Well done to Caitlin, Milan and Jessica who were our D.Js for the day.
