Halloween Fun in Junior Infants

Junior Infants had great fun in the run up to Halloween.

We played trick or treat and made spooky Halloween spiders and witches’ cauldrons!

We also opened our very own costume shop and made Halloween prints!

Finally, on the day of the holidays, we played traditional Halloween games like snap apple and bobbing for apples.  Here are some pictures of us at work and at play!

We did a lot of cutting, sticking and painting to make spider decorations!

First Class School Tour!

This year, First Class were joined on their School Tour by Junior Infants. We went to Smugglers Cove in Rosscarbery where we got lost in a timber maze, played crazy golf and then we were entertained by Tony Baloney! We had a super day, and we are looking forward to next years tour already! 🙂

This was the timber maze where we ran around while trying to find the letters to mark our task cards.

These were the cards we were given going into the maze. We had to find the letters which were located throughout the maze, with each letter having a different stamp.

We had our lunch with fabulous views in the background, overlooking Rosscarbery.

We then got to practice our golf skills on the 18-hole Crazy Golf Course……

Finally, we were entertained by Tony Baloney. He told us stories, played games, did magic tricks and best of all, we all got a balloon going home, which he had turned into different animals!

Junior Infants School Tour 2015

Junior Infants and first class had a fantastic time on their school tour to Smuggler’s Cover in Rosscarbery!

The day kicked off with the bus trip, which was very exciting.  After having a bite to eat on arrival, we tackled the Maze in pairs.  Each pair had to find the letters M A Z E and punch their cards on finding them.  It took quite a while but was great fun altogether.

The Maze had towers that allowed us to get a bird's eye view!

Then it was on to the crazy golf course.  Luckily we had lots of golf practice earlier in the year during P.E, so we were well prepared……..or so we thought!

We used a rope pulley to haul ourselves across the water!

Finally, we were all treated to jokes and magic tricks from The Great Tony Baloney!  He was very convincing as a pirate and amazed us with some great feats of magic and his comic genius!  To top it all off, he made us some fun balloons to bring home with us!  Hurray!

Fire Safety

At the end of April, Junior Infants had a visit from three members of Schull Fire Brigade, who explained their work to us and gave us fire safety advice.

The firemen gave us some very useful advice!

The firemen gave us some very useful advice!

They recommended that every family should decide on an escape route from the house and have an agreed meeting point a safe distance from the house where everybody should head to in the event of a fire.

They also stressed the importance of having smoke alarms in the home and testing them every now and then to make sure that they work.

They also told us that if confronted with a fire, the best thing to do was to get away from it and call for help!

The firemen also brought their fire engine and allowed us to try out some of their equipment, including the hoses and the beaters for fighting gorse fires.

This is the beater, which the firemen use to put out gorse fires!
